i maybe a shaman and a healer for 11 years now... but something i dont know anything about is gemstones... any suggestions for reading material???

and i need a good stone for storing healing energies i have been using a geoed of clear quartz and im looking for something to amplify them...

Crystal, Gem and Metal Magic by Cunningham is an excellent source. I've used it many times (read it through once) as a reference before casting. It is extremely detailed and will give you the properties for each stone.

i already own this book.... its a good encyclopedia... it tells which stone is best for what... not how to use them... i can charge my points and rings but i know im not using them to there full effects.

I have to disagree with the poster above. While I like Cunningham's books on herbs, I have found his books on Gemstones seriously lacking. If you are looking for a general all purpose reference book, I would go with Judy Hall - her books are quite thorough and they cover magickal as well as energy healing used for each stone.

Since you are coming from a shamanic background, I highly recommend "The American Indian Secrets of Crystal Healing" - link below - this book if very shamanic in nature and taught from the native american perspective but I think many of the lessons are quite good. It also includes a few good stories on how he has used the stones in his shamanic path which I found quite interesting.

I too would recommend the book of the American Indian secrets it's wonderful and has much guidance in it to a shaman. The other must is Melody - Love Is In The Earth ISBN: 0-9628190-3-4 it is the most beautiful book ever written on Crystals and a joy to read.
A good one for practicing with crystals is Hazel Raven - Crystal Healing - The Complete Practioner's Guide ISBN: 0-9538890-0-9 in here you'll find everything you need to know about practice. There's also a follow up that talks of the chakras with lovely meditations in both books.
A quartz crystal geode that you are using is an amplifying crystal in itself if programmed for this purpose. The geode formation is amplifying and quartz too so you have a good crystal to amplify your other stones or itself. You could try energising the crystal in sunlight as this will provide an amplification of it's energies. Outside in a quiet sunny spot for best energising for 24 hours. For a woman the moon also amplifies energy for the power of a woman's crystal collection comes from energising with the moon. This can be done at full moon and included with a cleansing ceremony in the 24 hour period i mentioned as sunlight is necessary to shine any darkness out of the crystal before it is energised by the moon.
