Well - so here is my rant about healthcare! Prescription costs! Completely absurd!
I had been taking some Skelaxin for my back for the last few days but I ran out. So I called my doctor and asked him to call me in a refill and when it went to pick it up - they said it would be $210!! So I called my doctor back and asked for a different prescription - so he gave me one but it doesn't work the same as Skelaxin - it makes me sleepy and dizzy - but its what I had to do to get some relief!
I guess…

Ok so this is my healthcare rant!
So I was in corporate america for a long time. I started working for a Corporation when I was 19, still in college and have had back to back corporate jobs until this year. I always took healthcare for granted because I was never in a position to have healthcare insurance.
I started my business, Raven Moonlight, 4 years ago - working full-time in my corporate job. About 2 years ago, I was able to go part-time and still retain my healthcare benefits. Now, thank…

Last Friday I said goodbye to my Stepfather, Don. He passed away on Friday night, at 822pm after a 2 year battle with Cancer. He was suffering and in so much pain, we had been hoping that the Goddess would take him soon to ease his pain.
Although the disease changed him as it progressed the memories I have of him are all from before it ravaged his body. I remember him always so happy to get new tools, working around the house - he loved tools - of all kinds. No leaking faucet, rusty door or lea…

With 7 dogs in my home, of course fights tend to break out. A few months back, a particularly bad fight broke out between my pitbull and my minpin. As much as minpin's like to believe it, they are not invincible - and my little minpin has the scars to prove it.
So here I rush to the Animal ER at 2AM once again - I keep that place in business! When all was said and done, my poor little minpin, Katey, had 15 stitches in her, had gone through 2 surgeries and had 3 drainage tubes coming out of her…

Although not a pagan holiday, I generally like to sit back and think about the great things in my life during this time. I have so much to be thankful for - here is a short but by no means all inclusive list:
* My dogs - without them there are days I wouldn't get out of bed!
* My business and wonderful customers - I have lucked out in my business and really had a chance to meet some wonderful, creative and caring people.
* M y family - although we do not always get along, I am glad to have th…

I found this on the Great Dane Rescue website - its truly beautiful and I challenge anyone who has ever had contact with rescued animals not to cry...
"I Would Not Allow Myself to Cry"
Chosen and adopted out of love
thought this came from heaven above
When the abuse began to start
from side to side I would dart
Then the confinement began to climb
my muscles and health began to decline
When no food made me sigh
my love and spirit kept me high
When the people stayed away
I thoug…

This list below of 10 things to keep in mind before adopting a dog was taken from the CURS website and it always makes me cry when I read. Its a great list for anyone adopting a new dog - or anyone who already lives with a furry companion to know and remember:
Please Remember:
My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you will be painful for me. Remember that before you buy/adopt me.
Give me time to understand what it is that you want from me.
Place your trust in me - it i…

Top 10 Reasons to Adopt a Senior Dog
1. Older dogs are housetrained. You won't have to go through the difficult stage(s) of teaching a puppy house manners and mopping up after accidents.
2. Older dogs are not teething puppies, and won't chew your shoes and furniture while growing up.
3. Older dogs can focus well because they've mellowed. Therefore, they learn quickly.
4. Older dogs have learned what "no" means. If they hadn't learned it, they wouldn't have gotten to be "older"…

It's Just a Dog
If you read the title and are still reading this, I hope it is out of anger or morbid curiosity, wondering, "How could anyone say such a thing?" If not, this piece is for you.
To anyone who says, "It's just a dog:"
You are the reason rescues exist, why thousands of dogs die everyday in shelters, homeless and unwanted.
You are the backyard breeder or puppy miller, who looks at a dog and sees dollar signs, who cares nothing for the inevitable decline in the dog's health after h…
