More ranting about healthcare!

Well - so here is my rant about healthcare! Prescription costs! Completely absurd!

I had been taking some Skelaxin for my back for the last few days but I ran out. So I called my doctor and asked him to call me in a refill and when it went to pick it up - they said it would be $210!! So I called my doctor back and asked for a different prescription - so he gave me one but it doesn't work the same as Skelaxin - it makes me sleepy and dizzy - but its what I had to do to get some relief!

I guess I never thought too much about it becasue I always had insurance that covered most if - but how can people live with these prescription costs? I also heard a report on NPR on a lady that passed away some years back because she didn't take her blood pressure medication since she the medicine was so expensive, she had to choose it or groceries for her family - so she chose the groceries. She died of a stroke due to burst blood vessel in her brain due to high blood pressure. Here is the story from NPR:

I voted for Obama and I really hope he does something to change this! We are supposedly one f the most advanced countries when it comes to healthcare - but we suck at taking care of our people if they don't have insurance =(

Even when people have health insurance, it's not always the best... I was in the hospital last year and they tried to tell me that almost nothing was covered! I fought and fought - since I was referred to an in network hospital by an in network doctor, everything used for determining why I almost died was covered... But the bills are crazy! I'm still paying it off, and will be for a few more years. People can't afford what hospitals and insurance companies want. I hope Obama is able to do something. Granted, he can only do so much because Congress has to approve it too.. but hopefully something will happen!

Yeah - I did some more research and I heard that there is a chance that I can get a private plan with Blue Cross and blue shield next year when I am 5 years out from my surgery. But there are a lot of limitations. At this point I will take anything - I am just afraid they are going to ask me for another $500 premium which I simply can't afford!

I really hope something can be done about the healthcare situation as well. I've dealt with it second hand with my mom last year when she found out she had cancer and underwent surgery. Even with insurance, her medical bills are outstanding, and she works in a hospital. Good healthcare doesn't do anyone any good if they can't afford to get it when it's needed.
